"Don’t make people dig. Show them the path."
New Site Launch: Outsiders Inn
This week, we’re sharing the new redesigned homepage for Outsiders Inn: a nonprofit in Vancouver, WA, working to lift people out of homelessness through advocacy, shelter, and support.
Here’s the before and after:

On the right (new version), content is broken up with clear sections, large headers, and enough white space to breathe.
If You Run a Nonprofit Site…
Most people won’t click past your homepage.
In fact, studies show up to 86% of visitors never go deeper than page one. So if your programs aren’t visible from the start, they might as well not exist.
For Outsiders Inn, we created a clean overview of all programs right from the homepage, then linked out to a flexible “Program Page” template they could reuse across the site.
See the “Shelters Services” page here.
Reminder:
It’s totally fine to repeat yourself.
Not copy-paste repeat, but you should re-introduce key programs on multiple pages and link between them. Think of it as reinforcing, not overloading.
Note: I redesigned only the homepage and built one Program Page template. Outsiders Inn updated the rest on their own, a reminder that Squarespace lets nonprofits keep control without calling a developer every time.
Small Biz Takeaway
Add a Services Overview section to your homepage.
Add a short Services Overview to your homepage. Use three icons or bullets with quick links. Make it obvious what you do in five seconds or less.
Catch you next week 👋
